About

I’m Kelley Bard, the teacher and owner at Balancing Yoga Durango.

I became interested in yoga in college, as it helped me relax and aided me in my college diving career and other sports I did for fun. It also gave me tools to handle my stressful double-the-normal-class-load at times in college. I kept finding myself going back for more throughout my life, after getting a degree in Human Biodynamics at UC Berkeley, and proceeding to work as a Personal Trainer in San Francisco for 5 years. I stepped away from that and taught gymnastics to preschoolers for a while in Hawaii, then returned to the mainland and 2 years on the Front Range. I found Core Power Yoga there, and took my 200 hour teacher training through them in 2004. Shortly after I married, moved to Durango, and raised my children. Yoga became a home practice for me, although I attended and then helped out at a Pre-Natal Yoga class for a while with Sheryl Mcgourtey. As a school librarian for Durango 9-R the past few years, I reengaged with my love for children. The recent lifestyle changes for our world, amid Covid-19 situations, brought me to realize that I want to support elementary and middle school aged children with the additional stress and trauma that they may be experiencing. Children’s yoga is a way that I can share proven tools for trauma and stress with the students. I am committed to teaching online and in person and providing mindfulness and self-calming tools to our local and online population.
